Andrea Piccini will be back on track this coming weekend at Le Castellet and once again in the FIA GT1, the championship that confirmed him as an international driver: seven consecutive seasons, from 2002 to 2008, with a leading role in the championship, and the title of vice-champion in 2006.
A brief stop in 2009, followed by his participation in the first round in 2010, with the FIA GT1 that has in the meantime become the official world championship for the highest expressions of the Gran Turismo category.
The return to his former championship last April 18th at Abu Dhabi was a true success: alongside Mike Hezemans from the Netherlands, the 32-year-old Italian achieved a 3rd position which is outstanding, considering that the Corvette Z06 had started from the last position on the grid (i.e. the 24th).
On the Paul Ricard circuit, in the fourth of the ten rounds of the FIA GT1 World Championship, Andrea Piccini will once again be driving a Corvette (same model, but number 13 car) and will be racing for the Phoenix Racing team. His team mate will be Marc Hennerici, another competitive driver, alongside whom Andrea will be able to entertain ambitious dreams on the 5,810-metre French track.
“If we look at the past races – said Andrea Piccini on the eve of his departure for Le Castellet – the Corvettes have always done very well. Their performance has shown that the characteristics of the “Paul Ricard” circuit are well-suited to those of the car. All the more reason to look forward to this weekend with optimism”.
The programme will begin on Friday, July 2nd with Free Practice, while the Qualifying Race is scheduled for the afternoon of Saturday, July 3rd, which assigns points only for the first three positions and determines the starting grid for the actual Race, which will start at 16:00 on Sunday, July 4th, and will last one hour.
