A triumphant saturday in the most beloved circuit, Spa-Francorchamps, for the Piccini brothers at the wheel of Kessel Racing’s Ferrari 488 GT3. With a race in advance, Giacomo graduated as champion of the Michelin Le Mans Cup together with Sergio Pianezzola while Andrea took an excellent third place with his teammate Claudio Schiavoni and achieves the best lap time ever of the entire weekend: 2’18″99, established in free practice, that has been the only dry session. Since qualifying, the rain has decided to leave its mark, so much so that in the race Andrea Piccini and Claudio Schiavoni – on the starting grid with the fifth time – have put in place a preventive strategy a bit risky, but at the end produced the desired result: wet tires immediately mounted at the start despite the dry bottom, given the looming threat of rain. In fact, after the first lap the water began to fall and at that point Schiavoni found himself favored, gaining the head of the group until the moment when the rain stopped and favored the opponents. Precisely at this stage, Schiavoni was buffered by a prototype that sent him into a spin, causing him to lose more than a minute. Everything had to be redone, therefore, but the rain that had started to fall allowed Schiavoni (author of an excellent performance) to regain ground and to go up to the third position, with the car of Giacomo Piccini and Sergio Pianezzola who has always kept the first place until the checkered flag. Andrea Piccini was able to keep his position despite Maurizio Mediani’s attempts, allowing Kessel Racing to get the whole podium with Giacomo Piccini and Sergio Pianezzola winners and new champions of the Le Mans Cup, Matteo Cressoni and Murad Sultanov (always on Ferrari) seconds and Andrea Piccini and Claudio Schiavoni third. “With an aggressive strategy at the start, we managed to dominate the early stages of the race with Claudio at the wheel – said Andrea Piccini – and the podium is then a great result, considering the competitiveness of the other crews, but without contact with the prototype we could aim for at least the second step. A full Kessel Racing podium shared with my brother, Sergio, Matteo, Claudio and Murad, what a result!“.
